The World's Best Compete at the Pacific Life Open
Indian Wells, California is in the midst of two weeks of intrigue and drama, as the best of the ATP Tour take to the court in the men's draw of the Pacific Life Open. The draw features many of the Tour's biggest names, including world No. 1 Roger Federer of Switzerland , Spanish phenom and world No. 2 Rafael Nadal, American world No. 3 Andy Roddick, and legendary No. 8-ranked Andre Agassi of the US. Federer is currently the king of the mountain in men's tennis, but the 19-year old Nadal appears to be emerging as a rival to Federer's throne. Nadal recently bested Federer in the final of the Dubai Tennis Championships to take a 3-1 lead in their career match history. Are these two foes on a collision course to what would be a memorable final at Indian Wells? Even with the potential excitement of a Federer/ Nadal final, one cannot overlook Roddick. The fan favourite has been on the upswing as of late, reaching the semifinals of the SAP Open in San Jose , California and the quarter-finals of the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships in Memphis , Tennessee . He will be looking to ride the momentum into a strong showing at Indian Wells. Another story to keep an eye on at the Open is that of Agassi. In what could be his final year on Tour, the ageless legend is still among the world's best and continuing to play stellar tennis. A reigning US Open finalist, Agassi has won eight Grand Slams and is still a threat to give any player on Tour all they can handle. These players, and many more, will be coming to Toronto for the Rogers Cup, presented by American Express August 5-13 at Rexall Centre. |
