125th Anniversary
In 1881, I.F. Hellmuth captured the first Canadian Open Tennis Championship at the Toronto Lawn Tennis Club. In 2006, Canada will be joined by the tennis world to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the third-oldest tournament on the professional circuit, behind only Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, as the Rexall Centre hosts the Rogers Cup presented by American Express from August 5-13, 2006. A tradition that runs deep into Canadian sport culture, the 2006 edition of Rogers Cup presented by American Express will celebrate the history of this great sport by honouring its champions, remembering exhilarating moments throughout two centuries of tennis and recognizing the advancement of the sport by highlighting the world-class athletes who will compete for nine days in Toronto this summer.
