Wimbledon Showdown Shapes Up

June 27, 2005 - As the final week of Wimbledon gets underway all eyes will be on the heavy favorite, Switzerland's Roger Federer, Wimbledon champion for the past two years. This year, Federer, the World No. 1 and top seed at The Championships, will be looking for a three-peat. And who would bet against him. He has now won 32 consecutive matches on grass. Federer goes up against Spain's former world No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero in the round of 16. Should the draw hold Federer is on schedule to meet the No. 3 seed and the 2002 Wimbledon champion Lleyton Hewitt in the semifinals. The No. 2 seed Andy Roddick has advanced in the other half of the draw. Roddick's way to the finals was made easier when Spain's French Open winner Rafael Nadal, the No. 4 seed, was bounced out of the competition by an unseeded player from Luxembourg. Still, Roddick will have his hands full in the round of 16 when he goes up against 2004 Roland Garros runner-up Guillermo Coria who has made his best run yet at the All England club.

The best of the best in men's tennis are coming to Uniprix Stadium in Montreal for the 2005 Rogers Cup, August 6-14. To purchase tickets by phone please contact Louise Durand at (514) 273-1515, ext. 235, Admission at (514) 790-1245, or visit on-line at www.tenniscanada.com
