Rogers Cup Practice Courts Renamed July 18, 2008 David Cynamon and family honoured for significant contribution Tennis Canada announced Thursday that the official Rogers Cup practice courts have been renamed the “Cynamon Family Practice Courts” in honour of David Cynamon, co-owner of the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts, and his family. This tribute is in recognition of the significant contribution the Cynamon family has made to the Tennis Matters campaign and Tennis Canada’s high performance athlete development program. “David and Stacey Cynamon and their kids Jesse, Joshua and Geri are longtime tennis supporters and good friends of Canadian tennis,” said Michael S. Downey, president and chief executive officer, Tennis Canada. “The court renaming is our way of thanking them for their dedication and commitment.” Each of the four practice courts will now be named for a different individual of the Cynamon family. “I am appreciative of Tennis Canada’s recognition of my family. The naming of the courts will leave a great legacy for my kids,” said David Cynamon. “Giving to tennis is important to me for many reasons. I want to see excellence and results at the high performance level in this country and I want Canada to consistently compete among the best on the international stage.” The four practice courts are now decorated with banners commemorating the Cynamon family and are adorned with flags from countries around the world to represent the international flavour of the sport of tennis. An official dedication ceremony will take place at the “Cynamon Family Practice Courts” on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. |
