Q. Ton match a bien commencé. Au second set, qu'est‑ce qui s'est passé? Est‑ce que c'était la nervosité un peu?
FRANK DANCEVIC: C'était juste un jeu qui a changé le deuxième set sur mon service. J'ai joué deux points très mal. J'ai manqué deux balles très faciles et puis il a frappé deux balles bonnes et c'était tout. C'était le point, il a gagné le deuxième set et je ne pouvais pas le breaker. Mais c'était ça, c'était deux points qui a changé le deuxième set.
Q. C'était chaudement disputé. Mais quelle, fin! Parle‑nous de la fin du match, avec l'as à la fin également.
FRANK DANCEVIC: Oui, c'était, je ne pouvais pas croire que les gens restaient. Quelle heure il est maintenant?
Q. Il est 00 h 20.
FRANK DANCEVIC: C'est incroyable! Vous êtes incroyables dans cette ville. Je ne pouvais pas croire tout le monde qui étaient là pour m'encourager tout le match. C'était bon parce que ça m'a donné un peu d'énergie dans le troisième set pour finir le match.
Q. Ton prochain adversaire, ce ne sera pas Ivan Ljubicic finalement, c'est le joueur qualifié qui l'a battu. Est‑ce que tu as déjà pensé un peu à l'avance à ce match?
FRANK DANCEVIC: Si tu gagnes contre quelqu'un dans le premier 11 au monde, ou qu'est‑ce qui est onzième au monde, si tu gagnes contre quelqu'un onzième au monde, tu dois jouer très bien. Et la semaine dernière il a aussi battu le gars que j'ai battu aujourd'hui, alors lui aussi il est jeune et il joue avec beaucoup de confiance. Et puis je ne sais pas. J’ai pas joué contre lui ça fait très longtemps, quelques années, alors ça va prendre un petit peu de temps dans le match pour savoir comment il joue et qu'est‑ce qu'il fait. Alors je vais savoir dans le match comment il joue.
Q. La journée de demain, là, ta journée va se terminer très tard aujourd'hui. Est‑ce qu’il y a l'entraînement quand même comme d'habitude demain pour le prochain match?
FRANK DANCEVIC: Mais oui, il y a toujours l'entraînement, il y a toujours des choses qu'on peut changer un peu. Alors je pense, ce tournoi, si je veux jouer très bien, c'est ma concentration qui doit être là tout le temps, 100 pour 100. Et dans le deuxième set aujourd'hui, j'avais quelques points que ma concentration elle est quelque part d'autre. Alors c'est ça que je dois travailler un peu demain dans la pratique, et on va voir comment ça va aller.
Q. Justement, après toutes les émotions de la semaine dernière, à Indianapolis et tout ça, avant ton match est‑ce que c'était plus difficile, tu étais plus nerveux, ou au niveau de la concentration est‑ce que ça allait à ce niveau‑là?
FRANK DANCEVIC: Pour moi, j'ai commencé très bien aujourd'hui. J'étais pas nerveux du tout. J'étais très excité de venir jouer à la maison. J'étais très confiant la semaine dernière, je jouais très bien et j'étais très excité pour venir ici à Montréal et pour jouer dans mon pays.
Q. Est‑ce que, Frank, au début du troisième set, quand tu as perdu le deuxième set, qu'est‑ce qui se passait un petit peu dans ta tête? Est‑ce que tu as eu peur de perdre? Tu voyais le scénario et tu avais bien joué dans le premier set, et là dans le deuxième ça semblait moins bien aller.
FRANK DANCEVIC: Comme j'ai dit, c'était deux points qui ont changé le deuxième set, et j'étais pas trop peur parce que je savais que c'était juste deux points. C’était pas comme il jouait beaucoup mieux que moi dans le deuxième set, c'était juste une petite chose qui a changé dans le match. Même s'il menait 4‑1, 5‑2, c'était juste un break. Alors j’étais pas trop, comment tu dis, "stressed out", stressé. J’étais pas trop inquiet parce que j'ai perdu le deuxième set. J'ai commencé le troisième juste comme le premier.
Q. Et là pour le prochain match, l'an dernier tu as aussi atteint la deuxième ronde. Là c'est ton tournoi, c'est à la maison, mais plus tu vas avancer dans le tableau, plus ça va être des matchs importants. Est‑ce que tu vois ça gros, te rendre en troisième ronde du Masters du Canada?
FRANK DANCEVIC: Oui, pour moi ce serait incroyable, parce que j'ai jamais été dans la troisième ronde. Alors tu sais, pour moi ce serait une très bonne expérience si je gagne le deuxième match et si je me rends dans la troisième ronde. La semaine dernière j'ai jamais gagné plus que deux matchs dans un tournoi ATP et j'ai fait les finales, alors je savais même pas. J'étais un peu choqué que j'ai fait ça, parce que j’ai pas pensé avoir un tournoi que je ferais ça. Mais si je gagne aussi mon deuxième match ici, je vais être très content, tout le monde sera.
Q. Aimerais‑tu ça peut‑être jouer et qu'il y ait plus de gens? Parce qu'à cause que ça a commencé très tard, forcément les ...
FRANK DANCEVIC: Pardon? J'ai pas entendu.
Q. Comme le match a commencé très tard, il n’y avait peut‑être pas autant de spectateurs que normalement pour un match, avec un canadien. Est‑ce que tu aurais aimé ça la prochaine fois que ce soit plein? Il y avait quand même de l'ambiance.
FRANK DANCEVIC: Non, mais je pense qu'il y avait assez d'ambiance ce soir. C'était beaucoup de bruit quand je jouais, quand je frappais les balles. Non, c'était très bien. Oui, j'aimerais aussi, si je joue dans la journée, qu'il y ait encore plus de monde, ce serait aussi bien. Mais ce soir, c'était très, très tard et les personnes devaient aller se coucher.
Q. Ton entraîneur disait en revenant d'Indianapolis que tu jouais ton meilleur tennis, que tu étais vraiment dans une bonne séquence. Est‑ce que tu sens encore cette magie‑là? Est‑ce que tu te sens encore porté? Ton tennis, est‑ce que tu penses encore que c'est le meilleur que tu as jamais joué, ce soir?
FRANK DANCEVIC: Mais oui. Tous les gars ici dans ce tournoi, ils sont dans les premiers 50e, 60e au monde. Pour battre quelqu'un ici, tu dois jouer très bien, un très bon tennis. Pas juste deux, trois points ou un set, tu dois jouer deux très bons sets pour les battre. Et je pense que je joue, tu sais, le plus bon tennis dans ma carrière. Maintenant, c'est deux, trois semaines et je suis juste excité pour jouer et voir comment ça va aller ce mois et cette année.

Q. When you got the ace to end the match, how did that feel to get that first one out of the way?
FRANK DANCEVIC: Yeah, I mean, I got a little nervous there with the Hawk‑Eye, to check the serve if it was in or not. When it ended up being on the line, I was pretty excited. I wasn't really thinking too much about the ace; I was just pretty excited to get through my first match.
First rounds are the toughest to get through, no matter who you are, top seed or anybody in the draw. It's the first match. Everybody's trying to get into the tournament and stuff. I was pretty pleased I got through tonight.
Q. Looking ahead to the next match. Your path in the tournament seems like you're going to be facing a guy who upset the 11th seed this afternoon but you're familiar with.
FRANK DANCEVIC: You know, I haven't really played Wayne in a long time. Obviously last week he beat the guy I beat tonight. Not sure how far he got in Washington. He also beat a guy who was 11 in the world today.
Obviously he's playing with a lot of confidence. He's playing with confidence and it's going to be interesting to see how it goes out there. It's going to take a little bit of games to get into the match, to see how he's playing, what game style and stuff. Just see how it goes.
Q. You dominated with the serve in the first set. Did you have a feeling the same thing you did to him might happen to you?
FRANK DANCEVIC: Well, I mean, you know, I started off sharp today. I think my serve held me up, took me through the match. I had a little bit of a lapse in the second set. I played a couple points I wasn't really focusing. I missed two balls, and that cost me the whole second set. He came up with two good balls after that, broke me, ended up holding strongly throughout the set.
I wasn't too concerned losing the second set because I knew he wasn't really playing a lot better than I was. We were pretty much even. But it was just a couple points that changed the set. I went into the third set with just as much confidence as the first.
Q. What do you think is really working that's gotten you to the final of Indianapolis and through the first round here?
FRANK DANCEVIC: I think that my serve, I feel a lot of confidence with my serve. Getting a lot of returns back, I think that's helped me out a bit because it's putting pressure on the guys, on their serve. Holding pretty comfortably most of the time, getting a lot of balls back on their serves, that's been helping me out quite a bit.
Pretty much that and obviously a little bit of confidence from last week. I never won two matches in a row in a tour event. Then going through to the final, gained a lot of confidence from that. Yeah, that's about it, you know. I can't really pinpoint one thing that really made a difference in my game.
Q. Have you ever felt this hot before?
FRANK DANCEVIC: This hot? Well, I don't know. I mean, obviously like I'm playing with a little bit of confidence right now. I'll see how far I can go with it, see how far I can take it.
Obviously the results last week and right now show that, you know, I haven't really had results like that in the past, so I'm playing a little bit better than I was in the past. That's it. Just excited to see how I'm going to, you know, get through the next month and the rest of the year.
Q. Did you feel some pressure here to win at least a match because it's your home tournament but also because of all the good results you had?
FRANK DANCEVIC: Obviously I felt a little bit of pressure. I feel pressure every time I go out on court. I want to play well for myself, especially in Canada. I want to play well for the people, in front of the audience. They paid their tickets to watch me play, to watch me and the other guy play. So obviously like I want to go out this and play really well, you know.
I guess it's kind of a little bit different type of pressure, but more of an exciting type of pressure. But, yeah, I feel a little pressure, sure.
Q. Would you have liked to play the earlier match with more fans there?
FRANK DANCEVIC: I mean, no one could have predicted today the weather and the rain. I guess that didn't really make a difference 'cause the match just went really long, the match before me.
I mean, I was pretty happy with everything today. The fans were great out there. I couldn't believe even how many fans stayed out so late to watch my match. I was pretty pleased about that.
Q. Do you have any history at all with Odesnik? Are you familiar with him?
FRANK DANCEVIC: I've played him a few times in the past, like years ago. He's a lefty. He's got a solid baseline game, pretty good forehand. I think he works around the court, good returns and stuff.
I haven't really seen him play lately. I don't really know. Hopefully my coach saw a little bit of the match, can tell me more about it. Going into the match right now, I don't really know his game style that much.
Q. What are the weak points you want to work on?
FRANK DANCEVIC: Like I said, just my focus a little bit. I got down a couple service games in the second set. I let the second set slip. My focus a little bit, I'm going to try to sharpen that up for the next match and try to stay focused through the match.
Q. How hard does he hit?
FRANK DANCEVIC: I was surprised by the way he hits his backhand, really hard. It goes through the court really hard. Obviously his serve's pretty big. He's a big guy. He hits the ball pretty hard. I hit a couple serves and some returns came back at me really hard. I felt kind of lucky to win a few points on that third ball.
Q. What did you think of his second serve?
FRANK DANCEVIC: His second serve, it came up pretty high because he's a tall guy. It came up pretty high. Somehow I was able to just use my slice and get a lot of balls back in.
